Couldn't stop reading

At first, I was very irritated every time a new chapter started with a new central character in a totally different location. But each chapter was so well written that I would quickly be caught up learning about each new person. Also, the relocations, while abrupt, gave me an opportunity to recover from the intense action of the previous chapters. Golden as
Rogan doesn't waste a single word or description. Everything in every location illuminates the thinking and drive of each, critically vital character. If you like action, science, dedication, and an enemy too terrifying to say this is an adventure story, then this book is for you and you will be as disappointed as I am to have to leave these people at the end of the book. I hope he will write more SOON.

now that was good....

After a winter going through all of James Lee Burkes books, a Spring full of Lee Childs and a few of David Baldacci, Steve Berry and James Rollins in between. I enjoyed this book more than most of them, What A wild ride it was, Gun Runners, FBI, US Navy, Coast Guard,and the ever frightening "sirens" this book ran the gamut. If you need a thrill ride down the escapism highway, Read This Book!
Can't believe that there aren't more reviews on this one.
Hard to imagine that this is Rogans' first book. Hope to see many more!

Once described as "a small wiry man, cold and steady as a rock" and "born without fear," Charlie Siringo became a favorite of high-ups in the Pinkerton organization. Nevertheless, the Pinkertons, ever sensitive to criticism, went to court to block publication of Siringo's book. Frank Morn, in his introduction to this Bison Books edition, discusses the changes that resulted from two years of litigation. Finally published in 1912 without Pinkerton in the title or the text, A Cowboy Detective has Siringo working for the "Dickensen Detective Agency" and meeting up with the likes of "Tim Corn," whom every western buff will recognize. The deeper truth of Siringo's book remains. As J. Frank Dobie wrote, "His cowboys and gunmen were not of Hollywood and folklore. He was an honest reporter.

Easy read with additional commentary that enhances the text

Reading this book was far easier than I expected. I thought it might be rather boring and dry, but there are a couple of things that make it a good read if you are interested in learning more about the life of Ignatius:
1. Ignatius actually lived a pretty interesting life.
2. The comments added at the bottom help to put some of the historic events in context, as well as rounding out the narration.

If you have never heard of the Jesuits or Ignatius of Loyola then you might not find the book interesting. However if you are familiar with them, this book is a great way to understand how the Society got started and how Ignatius' spiritual exercises came to be.

A Horrible Book Which Is Important Nonetheless

My first thought about this book was that it was confusing as hell and I wanted to get rid of it as soon as my class over. The distinction between a latin letter to represent a scalar, a greek letter to represent a vector and an italic letter to represent a matrix was just too messed up. But it's grown on me and now I see the value in this book. Whereas all other linear algebra books talk about vector spaces and groups over the fields of real or complex numbers, Finkbeiner discusses other fields as well like the finite integer fields. That fact turned out to be so useful in my later life and it never would have occurred to me had it not been for this book. I heartily recommend it and suggest that you plow through it despite the horrible way it's written. I'm scoring it in the middle because of the way it reads.
