J. Marvin Spiegelman has a Ph.D. from U.C.L.A. and is a Diplomate in clinical psychology, American Board of Professional Psychology. He is a graduate of the C.G. Jung Institute in Zurich, Switzerland and has taught at U.C.L.A., U.S.C. and the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. He has a private practice as a Jungian analyst in Studio City, California. Dr. Spiegelman is the editor and co-author of the other volumes in the Religion and Jungian Psychology Series which includes: Buddhism & Jungian Psychology; Hinduism & Jungian Psychology; Sufism, Islam & Jungian Psychology; Catholicism & Jungian Psychology; and others.

Not All That Much About Reich or Regardie

The author is extremely courageous and honest. I bought the book to find out about Regardie. Most of the the book is about the self-guided Jungian fantasy work the author did during the time that he also received Reichian work from Regardie, so it is not all that informative about the Reichian work. As a 'Reichian' myself, the thought occurred to me that the Jungian work ( explore the dream) was actually at odds with the Reichian (contact, in the body, here-and-now ) work, but perhaps they were synergistic.

Room for improvement

I have mixed feelings about this book. I strongly support the idea of presenting a broad range of arguments all related to one core issue, but I suppose I feel that this book didn't do a particularly good job at making that concept come to life.

Some of the topics, such as "Frontier," seem too broad to really stimulate much of a discussion, and also too rooted in history to have much of an application for opinions on modern issues. The layout and visuals are also not very well done, which will be a turnoff to the reluctant pupil.

That being said, there are many topics that are extremely relevant, such as war, family values, and civil liberties; these topics are illuminated by some great thinkers, such as Benjamin Franklin, Studs Terkel, and Gloria Steinem. There is also inclusion of some texts that you wouldn't think of as being centered around history or politics, such as an excerpt from "The Great Gatsby."

I haven't seen later editions, and I can only hope that they've improved upon this solid concept.

Excellent undergraduate text on quantum chemistry

I purchased a softcover copy of this book after seeing preview sections of it online on Google books. An excellent introductory textbook with well thought-out questions that follow each chapter. Easy to understand, and derivation of most equations are nicely executed within the text. I would rank this book equivalent to the classic text on quantum chemistry by Don McQuarrie. If you need something more basic, go for the classic text by A.R. Denaro (A Foundation for Quantum Chemistry); out-of-print, but still available in used bookstores, or online stores. If you need a primer in calculus, then a good place to start is "Teach Yourself Calculus" by Abbott.
